Services Department can provide complete trial presentation services
utilizing TrialDirector® or Sanction®. We can even work
with your existing PowerPoint presentations.
Displaying Evidence
If you have
hard-to-see exhibits like fetal monitor strips, CT scans, x-rays,
construction plans, graphs, timelines, photographs, and video, they can
be projected onto an 8’ by 8’ screen. There is no need to carry in
blow-ups of your exhibits or multiple sets of exhibit binders. All of
your evidence can be stored on a laptop computer and projected onto a
large screen. Multiple monitors and/or screens can be set up in
the courtroom so your evidence can be seen by everyone.
If your evidence is
important enough to talk about, then it’s important enough to be seen.
Studies show that jurors retain more facts when the facts are presented
visually.
Annotations
You can
electronically annotate, highlight, and redact
portions of the exhibits either before or during the trial without
affecting the original document. Call-outs or enlargements of
sections can be used to direct attention to areas of interest.
An overlay is
created when you have different images of the same exhibit but with
different annotations (highlighting, underlining, bolding, etc.) on
one copy. This allows you to demonstrate the exhibit in its
original state and then direct the jury's attention quickly to important
sections. Overlays can be created ahead of time or “on the fly” in
the courtroom by your witnesses, saved for future use and/or printed for
use as exhibits.
Side-by-side
comparisons of documents, signatures, photographs, and other evidence
are a popular use of technology. Areas of interest can be zoomed
in on to reveal differences.
Timelines
We can create
electronic timelines for your courtroom presentation. Timelines,
monitor strips, and other linear graphs can be enlarged and moved
horizontally on the screen.
Telestrator
Use a Telestrator-like
technique without the high cost of renting a Telestrator. If video
of an assembly line, for example, is of importance to your case, you can
play the video, pause it at key points, have your witness electronically
mark on it using a wireless computer mouse, and then print those
“marked-up” frames for use as exhibits. The picture to the right
is a video that has been paused and annotated using TrialDirector, much
like you could do using a Telestrator. The shot was then saved and
printed on a small color printer.
Laser pointer vs. mouse
In the past, you
and/or your witness may have used a laser pointer to direct attention to
a particular portion of your evidence. We can provide you or your
witness with a wireless mouse so that you can not only point to your
evidence on the screen but also electronically mark on it. A few
minutes of practice before trial is all it takes to master this
technique. The marked-up evidence can then be printed on a small
color printer right there in the courtroom.
Synched Video
Videotaped
depositions can be synchronized with the transcript text enabling you to
search the video using keywords. Thus, instead of reading from
transcripts to impeach witnesses, you can instantly replay the
videotaped testimony. It has tremendous impact because witnesses
cannot wiggle out of prior inconsistent statements when the jurors can
see and hear the witnesses’ demeanor, inflection, intonation, and body
